The Beauty Of Metallic Symphony

Soldiers

The Euro Cup 2012 is coming to an end, with Spain and Italy for the finals. Just too bad Germany couldn't make it to the finals... Too bad Italy defeated them with an honorable 2-1... Spain and Italy will soon face one another in a heated battle, highly-trained soldiers soon marching into a battle that concludes the ultimate winners.

Now, let us speak of those soldiers... Trained by governments and corporations to be ready for war. Trained only to fight and protect their country, and invade others. Unfortunately, this had become a stereotype... Soldiers stereotyped to be killers of families, invaders of peace. War for peace... Peace for War...

I feel nothing but disdain towards this. I feel disdain towards the dangerous Internet. Towards the infamous 9Gag. At first, everything that came out of the free website was funny and alright. But ever since the website was populated by newer audiences, demand had not only increased, but the standard fell miserably too. I could forgive all that, all but the offensive stereotypes. I once patronized the webpage for laughs. Whether they were satires, jokes about stars like Justin Bieber and other stars, or ruining childhood memories(save some, which I really find horrible). When the amount of racial, gender and profession stereotypes increased, I started losing interest... I totally lost interest when I saw some comments insulting soldiers and stuff...

I have to admit, I am rather sensitive to certain stereotypes. Some examples are how 'nice' guys always get friend-zoned, blondes are dumb, girls only like douche-bags, black people are difficult to spot, gingers lack souls, cats are better than dogs, and soldiers kill people. Perhaps some are indeed the truth, but I still don't feel comfortable. I mean, seriously? Can we really say that all Singaporean males over 18 are all killers? National Service is a must for us right? Very soon, we will be shaved, geared with camouflage apparels, kept fit and trained to toss grenades and use firearms. But that does not mean we will be going to war because our government says so. Try predicting the odds that our Singaporean Prime Minister are planning for war, and 99.98% of those who are dishonest and currently planning to troll me will get it wrong.

War games are common nowadays. Call of Duty, Battlefield, Cock o' Doody, even Halo is one of them. They all have people who wield firearms and fight to the death. I can't really be bothered to learn of their ultimate cause for all this, but I do understand that many FPS-gamers are strongly influenced by all these. As such, violence had perhaps became a norm for modern generation video games.

War for peace... That is one thing I really feel nauseous just by thinking about it. I do think a lot sometimes... Actually, I have this idea that the "War for peace" thing is actually imperialism. Maybe globalization is the more peaceful approach towards imperialism... Nah... I don't really want to talk about all these any further.

Very soon, we will serve National Service as soldiers, and come out and be mocked by the Internet as stereotypical killers, then reserve National Service for a few weeks every year. The horrible truth you all have to accept is that I am starting to keep my distance from prejudiced people like my family... Maybe except my elder brother, since he is perhaps the ONLY person other than me in the family who doesn't judge others... By the way, my elder brother is going to be 19 soon, so he will be serving national Service soon. After he finished his Diploma, that is.
